DOKOUPIL — Film Paintings

This Summer, Galerie Andrea Caratsch is pleased to present Dokoupil’s «Film Paintings».
This body of works was created between 2007 and 2009 and stems from the radical idea of transcribing a film’s entire visual content onto a single canvas, without subjectively selecting individual frames (as is the case with film stills). Taking a film that would normally be projected sequentially at high spead (24 frames per second), Dokoupil transfers horizontally or vertically to canvas each and every frame, complete with opening credits and end titles.
